Interview with
a Fringe Artist

Each month leading up to the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival our monthly artist interview will feature artists that will be producing with us this year. They come from far, far away and from right next door.

This month we interviewed Zvi Sahar. Zvi is from Tel Aviv, Israel. He will be bringing his puppet show Planet Egg to DC for this summers Fringe Festival. Planet Egg is Puppet Cinema — an innovative and exciting new format in which the audience sees the puppeteers working on stage as well as the action filmed and projected as a movie in real time with a full score and live Foley.

Originally conceived at Haifa University, Planet Egg was developed in the St. Ann’s Warehouse’s Puppet Lab 2010–2011 and shown at the Lab’s Labapalooza! festival (A Time Out New York Critic's Pick) in June 2011. In August 2011, an expanded version was presented at the International Puppetry Theater and Film Festival in Holon, Israel, and again in the fall of 2011 at New York’s Dixon Place. Most recently, Planet Egg performed as part of the Spring Artist Lodge at HERE over Easter weekend, 2012.
